Barcelona is one of the Mediterranean's great cruise ports, and embarkation day is usually the most complicated day of the trip: a flight, luggage, check-in and a deadline to get on board.
This guide explains where the terminals are, how long it takes from the airport and the city centre, which transport options you have and how to arrange a private chauffeur transfer so your cruise starts well from the very first minute.
Part 01 · The Terminals
Where Cruise Ships Dock in Barcelona
Moll Adossat, the big ships
Most large ships dock at the Moll Adossat terminals, at the foot of Montjuïc and about 3 km from La Rambla. You can't walk there from the city: you need a car, a taxi or the port shuttle bus.
World Trade Center, the smaller ships
The World Trade Center terminals on the Moll de Barcelona take smaller ships and are a few minutes' walk from the Columbus monument and Drassanes metro, between the Gothic Quarter and Barceloneta.
Part 02 · Getting There
From the Airport or Your Hotel to the Ship
From the airport: about 20–30 minutes
El Prat airport is about 16 km from the port. By road it takes roughly 20–30 minutes depending on traffic, so you can fly in on embarkation day if your flight lands with time to spare. New to the airport? Our guide how to get from Barcelona airport to the city centre covers the terminals and every option.
From the city centre and hotels
From hotels in the Eixample, the Gothic Quarter or along the Diagonal, the drive is usually 10–20 minutes. From seafront hotels such as W Barcelona or Hotel Arts, it's even shorter.
Taxis and public transport
There are taxis at the terminals, but on turnaround days the queues can be long. The port shuttle bus links the terminals with the Columbus monument, where you continue by metro or on foot: cheap, but awkward with large suitcases.
Port Pickup
From ship to airport, without the queue
Your chauffeur waits at the terminal with a name sign, loads the luggage and drives you straight to the airport or your hotel at a fixed price.

Make the Most of Your Day Ashore
Embarkation day: the city first, then the ship
If you board in the afternoon, book a chauffeur by the hour: pickup at the airport or hotel, a visit to the Sagrada Família or Montjuïc with your bags safe in the car, and arrival at the terminal on time.
Disembarkation day: afternoon flight
Ships usually disembark early and many flights leave in the afternoon. With a car at your disposal you can fill the gap with lunch in Barceloneta or a stroll through El Born before heading to the airport.
Extend your trip: Sitges, Montserrat or the Costa Brava
Many passengers add a night or a day trip. Our long-distance chauffeur service takes you from the port to Sitges, Montserrat or the Costa Brava; find ideas in our guide to day trips from Barcelona with a private chauffeur.
Groups and Families
Four or more of you with cruise luggage?
A Mercedes V-Class carries up to seven passengers and their suitcases in one vehicle: more comfortable and often cheaper per person than two taxis.

How to Book Your Cruise Transfer Right
- Book ahead, especially from April to October, when several ships are in port on the same day.
- Give the ship's name, the terminal and your boarding or disembarkation time.
- If you're flying in, add your flight number so the chauffeur can track it in real time.
- Count your luggage properly: cruise suitcases take up more space than a weekend bag.
